First Meal

A series of four performances.

The First Meal is like taking the first step. A white canvas is ready to be filled out.
Our canvas already has a frame:
One table and two chairs in the middle of a pond.
And a clock without hands hanging on a raft.

When thinking about the idea of a meal we reflect on the idea of sharing food together.
What does it mean ?
At first we try break up the idea of a meal into small pieces in our search for some sort of essence.
What is left?
People gathering and sharing a symbolic action.

The word ritual comes to our minds and becomes the theme of the first meal that we perform and experience together.

A ritual can be defined as "a sequence of activities involving gestures, words and objects performed in a sequestered place and performed according to a set sequence."

First object:
A pile of uncooked rice.

The time keeper.
This character is in charge of the transport between land and the installation in the middle of the pond. He regularly makes the clock ring and keeps the performance in rhythm.

Our movement is improvised.
The word ritual is directing us.
We experience the limitation of the chairs and how it affects the movement.

Every morning we do morning exercises to strengthen our inner connection and to open up our awareness and senses.
When we perform we believe that this openness is important to create a pure and authentic improvisation.
In our movement we are highly affected by each other and our surroundings. The sensation of the wind, the heat from the sunshine and sounds from the audience are a few of the factors that affect us.
